The SPI Group is a significant shareholder in the Frescobaldi wine business in Italy. Under a deal completed in May 2006, Marchesi de'Frescobaldi, a prestigious family-run business, grouped together three of its Tuscan wine estates and SPI took a stake, along with MIP (Michael Mondavi), a world renowned Californian wine producer.

The Tenuta dell'Ornellaia, Castelgiocondo and Luce della Vite estates are internationally renowned. Among the best-known wines produced are Castelgiocondo, Brunello and Luce. The deal was designed to move the family firm to the next stage of its development.
