Raw alcohol
Overview
The heart of the SPI Group lies in our historic distilleries, the oldest of which can trace vodka production back more than 200 years. It is here that we start with the production of raw alcohol.
At our Talvis distillery, 450km south-east of Moscow. We produce 3.2m decalitres a year of the highest quality delux grade and extra grade grain alcohol, ranking it among Russia's top-five alcohol producers.
SPI aquired Talvis in 2002, when it consisted of four distilleries making raw alcohol and one making vodka. We invested a total of $3.1m modernising the plants. State-of-the-art water-treatment systems were installed that control the mineral content and acidity of the alcohol. As a result the Talvis distillery can exercise stringent quality control to guarantee a constant, high-quality supply of alcohol which is used to make our award-winning drinks.
Talvis produces 3.2m decaliters of raw alcohol and 2m decaliters of vodka a year and is one of the biggest spirit producers in Russia. The alcohol produced exceeds the requirements of SPI - it is also sold to other brand owners for the production of well known domestic and international vodkas.
The distillery takes rye and wheat grain from the Tambov, Voronezh, Volgograd, Penza and Saratov regions of Russia. Quality rye is crucial for Russian vodka, as it gives the drink its special taste.
To further strengthen our drive for quality, the SPI Talvis facility was the first Russian distillery to produce high-end "Alpha" grade raw alcohol when production started in 2006. "Alpha" grade alcohol is used for all premium and ultra-premium vodkas to ensure a top-quality consumer product.
